On January 21st a delegation of the National Vietnam Software Association (VINASA) visited Holland Gateway for a seminar in the field of software outsourcing. This delegation was led by Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Giang, deputy secretary general of VINASA. Mr. Dao Huy Giam, commercial counselor and Ms. Tran Thi Mai Huong, commercial attaché from the Embassy of Vietnam acccompanied the delegation. The Netherlands is the second stop after their trip to UK, another potential ICT business partner. The seminar kicked off with an introduction by Micaela dos Ramos, director of Holland Gateway, in which she expressed her warm welcome and presented the possibilities for Dutch support to Vietnamese-Dutch bilateral cooperation in the ICT sector. Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Giang commended the theme of promoting Vietnam as a new destination for software outsourcing. Vietnam has a large talent pool with more than 300 universities/colleges offering education in the field of ICT, aiming to provide 1 million IT engineers by 2020. Compared to China & India, Vietnam has 40% lower cost and less than 10% attrition, but can meet stringent quality requirements from world-leading companies. Strong government support, such as: tax incentives, training & education exchange programs, software/high tech parks, is also an attractive factor. Another aim of this seminar is to introduce valuable Dutch network partners to support the success between Vietnam and Netherlands. Koos van Eyk from CBI (Centre for the Promotion of Imports from developing countries) explained the governmental supporting programs to Vietnamese importers. The CBI then specifically shared the “ICT Opportunities in 2011” between Vietnam and the EU, showing potential business opportunities in the field of SaaS and Cloud computing, Mobile application development, security software, business intelligence solution, etc. Sven van de Riet from Giarte shared Giarte’s research results on outsourcing performance. Results from which they found out it was crucial for service providers to understand the business and culture of the outsourcing company. He furthermore informed the delegation participants on do’s and don’ts in their quest for success in the Netherlands. Dutch matchmakers and intermediaries were also interested in meeting this delegation for their Dutch market entry. Interliaise gave a presentation about their matchmaking facility and their affiliation with the Private Sector Investment Program (PSI). The delegation and Embassy showed great interests in the topics listed and joined the discussion actively. After the network & lunch session, Holland Gateway invited the delegation for a visit to Science Park Amsterdam. Deputy manager Ms. La Thuy Nhan of E-office Park, one of the best industrial parks in the Asia-Pacific region, exchanged her experiences with Mr. Jan Straub, project manager of Science Park Amsterdam. The delegation was also greatly impressed by the idea of bringing scientists and entrepreneurs to one inspiring location. Both the delegation from VINASA and the Embassy of Vietnam considered this program to be a good start for long term cooperation. VINASA showed interested in follow-ups and hope to pay a second visit to the Netherlands in the near future.
